The Dan River Nonprofit Network had a foundation for their evaluation strategy, but needed support in operationalizing and implementing a data collection plan. They had also recently grown, both the size of their team and the size of their service footprint, and needed some hands-on capacity to make the evaluation process happen.

Our approach
Our first priority was to understand the Nonprofit Network’s biggest needs and goals and develop a work plan to address them. We started by assessing where the Nonprofit Network team needed immediate help and getting acquainted with their data and data collection systems. One of their key needs was a way to efficiently capture key outputs of their work for easy use in reports. We worked with them to develop an internal tracking form that could be completed quickly as their key activities occurred while also producing a filterable dashboard of their work.
We continue to manage this tracker and dashboard and make tweaks as they identify emerging needs. We also developed new surveys to assess their key service lines, including trainings, events, and consulting, as well as refined existing ones that captured member needs. We created a survey process SOP to accompany these tools so that Nonprofit Network staff know when, how, and why to deploy the various tools that help them understand their membership and immediate impact.
